Turkey lose 3-0 to Portugal, eliminated from Euro 2024
Turkey's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2024 were ended on Saturday as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Portugal in Dortmund.
The loss means Turkey have now lost all four of their meetings with Portugal at the European Championship, conceding eight goals without reply.
Portugal took the lead in the 15th minute through a stunning strike from Bernardo Silva. The Manchester City midfielder picked up the ball on the left flank and drove into the Turkey box before unleashing a powerful shot that flew into the top corner.
Turkey almost levelled just before the half-hour mark when Cengiz Under's shot came back off the post. However, Portugal doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when Diogo Jota headed home from close range after a cross from Joao Cancelo.
Turkey continued to press for a goal in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past Portugal's defence. Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the victory for Portugal in the 74th minute when he converted a penalty after Caglar Soyuncu had fouled Joao Felix.
The defeat means Turkey finish bottom of Group H with just one point from their three matches. Portugal, meanwhile, progress to the round of 16 as group winners.
